MYKONOS

Although we arrived in Mykonos amidst the Greek debt crisis, it was business as usual on the islands, who depend almost entirely on tourism for their economy. While Greek locals had restrictions on ATM transactions, as foreigners this did not affect us. The island is known for being a party island, and we were located close to Jackie O’s at Super Paradise Beach, a gay beach club with gorgeous views over the bay. Everyday groups of men would ride in on their quad bikes to grab a spot by the pool and dance the day away.

We stayed in an incredible villa, Villa Euphoria which catered for the 22 of us that had come to Mykonos for the week. With views direct out to sea from the pool, and plenty of space inside it would have been easy to just stay in the villa the whole time.

We splurged on a lunch booking at Nammos Beach Club, which true to form, saw us all dancing on the tables as soon as it hit 5pm. The trend is to buy large bottles of champagne, with leave your wallet hurting the next day! At the other end of the spectrum is Kiki’s Tavern, a small lunch spot on the other side of the island, with incredible food and great hospitality. Get in early for the first sitting, (arrive at midday for lunch at 1pm to be guaranteed a seat). We missed the first sitting, however as long as one of the group was in the queue the rest of us were free to pass the time at the beach just down the hill. Free house wine while you wait is not too bad either!

Cavo Paradiso for one night was a must to experience. We danced the night away to Supernova, not one of the largest headliners that the club gets in, however seeing as we got home at 6am we clearly had a great time.

All in all Mykonos was a fun island to spend a week on. We ate, drank and were merry. We swam everyday, ate incredible greek food (I have never had so much taramasalata in my life!) and relaxed under the hot Greek sun.
