ICELAND

Iceland, in one word, is magical. We explored as much of the island as possible in 10 days, generally following the Ring Road with a few detours to explore further. Our first night was spent in Stykkishólmur, a gorgeous harbour town, one of the sites where the film ‘ The Secret Life of Walter Mitty was filmed’. Myvatn was next, with it’s hot springs and belching geo-thermal pools. We hiked up volcanoes and relaxed in the warm blue water of the Myvatn Lagoon. We saw whales in Husavik, and camped by a cliff full of faces in Asbyrgi; our first real run in with the huldufolk we had heard so much about. Live music filled the streets of pretty Seydisfjordur and purple flowers filled the fields as far as we could see near Vik. Iceland is teeming with waterfalls of all shapes and sizes. We saw big foss, small foss, thin foss and fat foss. We camped in between tectonic plates at Thingvellir and quenched our thirst in Reykjavik. 10 days in Iceland in summer was just enough to soak up the magic that fills this strange and wonderful island.
